What is Safety Management Foundation (SMF)?
Safety Management Foundation is a practical based movement to remain safe in disaster initiated by the youth of Bangladesh to train up the common people. We hope to make sure the awareness of common people on disaster and education. We also encourage the educated youth to take training for career.
What is the background of starting SMF?
After working on firefighting at “Tazreen Fashion (2013)” and after participating on rescuing at “Rana Plaza (2014)” the Founder of SMF thought to spread out his activities and after that he along with some young people starts activities of SMF with the training and making aware the people on disaster management. SMF officially started on 24th April 2015.
Are you registered officially?
Yes, Safety Management Foundation is registered as non-political, non-profitable, non-govt., voluntary and charitable organization at the ‘Office of Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms’ under the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. The registration number S – 13213/2019.
Do you have any contact with the government and do they know you?
Yes, we are registered under government of Bangladesh. We have worked with the government in various campaigns and we have worked with DRR and Practical Action Bangladesh at Rohingya camp (December-2018, Camp-13).
Who is the Founder of SMF?
Md. Shakhawat Hossain Swapon is the founder of Safety Management Foundation. He was born on 25th November, 1987 at Kurigram. He has completed BBA (Management) and MBA (HRM) from Jagannath University, Post Graduate Diploma on Disaster Management from University of Dhaka. He attained workshop on Community Based Disaster Management in Asia at Beijing, China in 2015 (Conducted by UNDP-China). He is working as training instructor at Comprehensive Disaster Management Program (CDMP) in association with Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defense since December 27, 2011. He currently lives in Dhaka.

What are the expansion plan of SMF?
We want to open an international training and research institute on disaster management at Dhaka and want to visit every educational institution to train up the students on disaster management.
How do you manage your account?
Our accounts are maintained by professional accountants and are audited periodically. These audit reports are publicly available on the safety management foundation website.
What are the plans for the youth?
SMF understands that in order to improve the entire community we must prepare the youth to face any kind of disaster, so we are trying to train up the youth on disaster and on IT & technical capacity for coping with disaster as well as their career in different national and international organizations.
